Artist setting and RECCE

Whilst planning my music video, I have realised that, whilst I am finding it okay to find settings to shoot my videos in, it is proving difficult for me to decide whether to shoot the artist scenes (of her miming) in a river setting, garden, or infront of a plain white background...

Option 1-Garden

  • Greens might show up well in black and white
  • Quit epicturesque in contrast to situations
  • Wind may create quit e a nice effect on the artists hair ect.

Option 2-River
  • Water may suggest a 're-birth', something clear, pire and innocent
  • Clear landscape
  • Solome tone created by colours which would be emphasised b black and white

Option 3-White background

  • Vommon in music videos
  • Clearly distingushable between the artist and other narratives to prevent confusion
  • White, pure and simple
I willtherefore continue to think about the pros and cons of each setting

Other issues....

  1. Would ideally like a choir but seems inpractical
  2. Perhaps would like a scene to include the teenage boy stealing-but may be difficult to film
  3. Are you allowed to film in hospitals?
  4. Need a doctors room for one narrative-where should i shoot this?
Other settings-REECE questions

Will there be any potential health and safety risk at my settings and how will these be overcome?
When filming in the forest/tree area, random twigs and other uneven areas could pose a health and safety risk, shots in public (such as on public transport) could also present a slight risk. In addition, the shots in the car could prove difficult to film without the driver from getting too distracted, and so emphasis will need to be made on filming the non-driver of the couple. Running shots (in narrative 1) will also have to be carefully carried out.
Will the time of day/weather affect the outcome of the photos? Have you allowed for this?
I intend to carry out shooting on a dry, ideally overcast day. Should it be raining or snowing, then filming shall have to be rearranged. I intend to film all of my narratives during the day time, although some shots at night time in narratives 1 and 2 could also prove effective. This will be dependent on when the volunteers participating in the filming are available, meaning that the times of filming should be more flexible and shooting can be carried out quicker.
Have you considered the background to your photos, particularly if taken outside? How will you ensure you will get the background you want?
I have chosen my indoor locations to specifically reflect the personality and situations of the characters, whilst also being practical for shooting surposes, so backgrounds shouldn’t pose a problem. Outside, however (particularly in narrative 3), other people in the hospital shots and those filmed in the car could present an issue, for example they may look alarmed or stare at the camera if they are aware I am filming,. I shall therefore chose to shoot on days where crowds aren’t usually a problem.
Do you need permission to take photos in the place/venue you have in mind?
I have already received permission to film in my various which may be otherwise problematic. These include various indoor locations (such as three different houses for the three different narratives, and in the car. Other locations such as outside of the hospital and in a grassy, forest like area shouldn’t present a problem.
Are you reliant on lifts/props/friends’ equipment/models? How have you planned that these things will come together at the appointed time? Plan B?
Unfortunately, like all projects including so many actors, I am extremely reliant on my friends to participate in my video, although I have tried to ask the most reliable people. I am about to book out a tripod and tracking device to use during the period that I intend to plan, although this isn’t necessarily a problem as other methods could be used to shoots tracking shots, and I already have a, although older tripod available to me.

Audience background

Through directly targeting my target audience, I have concluded that the audience I have targeted (Young people of either gender, between the age of 15-25), I have concluded that the majority of viewers would use the text to gratify their sense of personal iderntity (According to the uses and gratifications theory, Blumler & Katz, 1970's) by relating to the charaacters that are presented in the texts. This may be done by the situations which they may beable to relate too, their character and enviroment, whilst perhaps being comforted that their current situation is not as unfortunate as those presented on screen. Another idea outlined by the theorists is that some may use media texts to build their own personal relationships, through talking about the texts in a social situation.
According to Young and Rebican's four consumers theory, my music video would most likely be directed at the 'smainstreamers' whom appriciate security and welbeing, and therefore the impact of such unstable situations in the narratives are likely to affect them more.

New video-inspiration

I have recently seen a new music video that is extremely similar to the one i want to produce with regards to the multi-narrative style, inspirational lyrics and links and the verisimilitude that is presented throughout. Although presented in colour, the (as opposed to balck and white taht i intend to in-corperate), the lihting elements are also imtresting. This video has confirmed that I am sure of type of music video I would liek to proudce, and that is is possible to produce a sucsessful music vieo-even on a small scale. Below is the video that has inspired me...

Lyrical ideas, meaning and initial thoughts of planning

Since I have began this project, I have been developing ideas of my music video and the structure of it. I have tried to link the structure of the narratives to the tone and lyrics of the song. In order to get these ideas down on paper, I have created a 'lyrics poster', to mind-map the general structure of the video, and particularly where i intend some of the lyrics to emphasise links between them and the images on screen.
